Seafarers' House

Fort Lauderdale, FL

Located adjacent to the Florida Power & Light Port Everglades power plant site, the Seafarers' House in Fort Lauderdale hosts more mariners annually than any other agency in North America. Known as Casa del Marina, the center offers practical care, a relaxing environment, and comforting spiritual support, with access to chaplains of all faiths, a chapel, free Wifi, wire transfer services, and an international convenience store to meet visitors' onshore needs. The new configuration, at 14,700 SF, includes larger retail space, a game room and living room setting, assembly space for meetings, a restaurant, and administrative offices, in addition to original functions. Because the site is subject to FPL's options to use the land at its discretion, the plan comprises 15 modular units designed to meet programmed needs, yet is flexible and can be transported to an alternate location, if necessity arises. A canopy-covered entry and engaging signage announce the reassuring presence of Seafarers' House in the Port Everglades zone.
