Hispanic Library and Cultural Center
Fort Lauderdale, FL
The board of Broward County Commissioners and Library directors recognized a growing need to respond to the County's diverse Hispanic population of young families, professionals, and students. To serve their needs, a 15,000 SF space will be dedicated to provide significant numbers of volumes of printed material; video and audio collections; meeting, exhibit, and community events areas; and a children's reading room. The expansive venue, planned to include banks of computers and comfortable reading areas, overlooks the Main Library's multi-story central atrium. A glazed curtain wall system to the north will reveal impressive views of the City of Fort Lauderdale. Acknowledging that the County's Hispanic residents represent many different nations and cultures, we've planned a series of "digital windows" to offer a virtual tour of each particular culture.
