Success Originated by Miami-Dade County, and now under the auspices of the City of Miami Gardens, Scott Park continues to serve the recreational, creative, and cultural needs of the residential neighborhoods surrounding it. Now, however, the community, Parks and Recreation Department, and City of Miami Gardens have united to move forward with a comprehensive restorative and upgrading plan to meet emerging needs in the new millennium.

Scott Park

City of Miami Gardens, FL

Located within the center of contiguous residential environs dotted with distinctive mature oak trees, Scott Park is an essential element in the daily lives of children, teens, adults, and senior citizens. Its aging community center buildings will be replaced with state-of-the-art facilities designed to better accommodate popular physical activities as well as cultural and community pursuits. Space is allotted for family and community social events embracing homeowner association and club meetings, holiday and birthday celebrations, and children’s summer camps. The building will also include a warming kitchen, two administrative offices, and restrooms accessible from indoors and out. The structure features overhead rolling doors for access to storage of sporting and maintenance equipment.

Two adjacent sheltered pavilions furnished with picnic tables, and overlooking the baseball field, extend camp, classes, and special event activities outdoors. Nearby is a dedicated fruit-and- vegetable community garden.

Recreational amenities will be vastly improved: baseball and open play fields will be renewed and resurfaced. Basketball courts will be fitted with new adjustable-height hoops, and resurfaced and restriped. A playground and the center itself will reflect the historical rocket ship theme once part of the original play structure, plus robotics and other new sciences. Thematic features will be reflected in pictorial screen walls, art pieces, laser-cut graphics, and modern playground equipment shaped like a rocket and other space-related play structures, with USA colors of red, white, and blue.

And to ensure safety, security, accessibility, and protection of assets, Scott Park will be surrounded by a new picket fence and state-of-the-art lighting, providing capability of nighttime closure, plus additional parking.
